A few things to note about this sushi place: they give you naturally brewed soy sauce which is the best, the ginger they use is not filled with fake sugar ingredients and dyes, and the takeout packaging is biodegradable. They also make your food very quickly! The food was all fresh and tasted delicious! Next time I will order the miso and edamame to complete my meal. Love ordering here :)

This place was amazing. Came on family day with our two young kids. The wait time is long but the chef (and restaurant owner) warns you in advance and lets you decide if you want to continue. We opted to because we could tell his food was going to be high quality. We ordered party tray C (nigiri not pictured but was amazingly delicious and fresh) to make it easier on the chef, and we were all very well fed after coming from a long hike. Our son (4) couldn’t stop eating all the deliciousness, and really grew his love for my favourite, unagi. This place is very reasonably priced and we will be regulars going forward. Seating is limited so best to order takeout, especially if you don’t want to wait long for your food. If you have patience and want to come for the ambiance, you’ll be able to appreciate the decor and the immaculate cleanliness of a small shop run by one amazing chef. Come for the atmosphere, great quality and fresh food, and show appreciation and patience for the chef for being an incredibly hardworking shop owner. (I highly recommend you overlook the negative reviews as they are seemingly not very forgiving or understanding of what this gem has to offer).

I haven't been here for a while (about 2 yrs) but I found this hidden gem in 2010/2011. Still the freshest and best price sushi money can buy. Brian always aims for quality and it's consistent. I highly recommend it and without a doubt, he is a one man show but it's the quality and love put into it and its so worth it. Just plan a bit better. He can't be at the front and the back but still tries to accomdate all his customers. Seating is limited, take out is better. There could be a wait depending on time frame and your order. He is always taking orders so that already speaks volume. Hes a hidden gem and worth it!

Sushi is amazing. Some of the best I’ve had. Delicious and the price is cheap by today’s standards! This is a one person show though, so expect to wait. Service is not great but again, one person doing everything. Worth the wait. If I were a local I’d be a regular.

This place is a hidden gem in Goldstream. The restaurant is a little hidden and didn’t have a sign up at the time, which made me question if they were still open. Luckily I ventured in and tried it out. It’s very small on the inside but very clean and comfortable. The menu was small but prices were very good. I had the Sushi combo and it was excellent, fresh tasting and a good size portion. Overall the price and quality is the best i’ve found in the west shore. I will definitely be returning :)

The BEST sushi I have ever had - and I have been to a lot of places. Everything here is always FRESH! My favorites are Tuna Cowboy rolls and a Spicy Scallops Cone (and all other cones). The prices are affordable and the food is great! There is always a lot of parking available. Highly recommend this place. I am sad I can’t give 6 stars.

By far the best spicy rolls we have had in years (and we were in Japan not long ago). Excellent value for the price. I don't know if it is always a one-man operation, but if you go in the evening plan at least an hour before closing so the chef has time to work his magic before he has to close up. Highly recommended!

Delicious sushi very clearly prepared fresh with excellent ingredients. Beautiful presentation too. Service was very friendly and pleasant, with an intimate atmosphere. Prices are very reasonable, especially considering the high quality. An overall great experience!

Welcome to the culinary gem known as Maiko Sushi, nestled at 877 Goldstream Ave in Victoria, BC. This charming eatery, run by a dedicated chef and owner, has captured the hearts (and appetites) of locals and visitors alike. With a focus on freshness and quality, Maiko Sushi offers an impressive menu that delights the senses.

One of the standout features of Maiko Sushi is its commitment to using high-quality ingredients. As customer Maria noted, they serve naturally brewed soy sauce and ginger free from artificial additives, providing a true taste of authentic sushi. This attention to detail elevates every dish, allowing the natural flavors to shine. The chef's dedication to freshness is palpable in every bite, making each sushi roll an experience to savor.

The atmosphere at Maiko Sushi, although small and cozy, is one that fosters appreciation for the craft of sushi-making. The restaurant’s immaculate cleanliness and inviting decor speak volumes about the chef's commitment to quality and service. As highlighted by Swin Yn Chai, patience is key here; while the wait might be longer during busy hours, the payoff is a hearty, delicious meal that is well worth the anticipation.

Takeout is highly recommended due to limited seating, allowing you to enjoy your sushi in the comfort of your own home or on-the-go. As Janice Laurin reminds us, yielding to wait times is a small price to pay for the experience of savoring some of the freshest sushi at truly reasonable prices. The sushi combos and party trays, such as Tray C recommended by Swin Yn Chai, are perfect for sharing and offer fantastic variety.

Another aspect of Maiko Sushi that deserves recognition is its eco-conscious philosophy. The use of biodegradable takeout packaging resonates with environmentally aware diners, making it a place where you can indulge in great food while being mindful of the planet.

While service may sometimes lag due to the chef's multi-tasking, the quality of the food is undeniably impressive—some patrons have even declared it the best sushi they’ve tasted. As Scott Van Achte puts it, "worth the wait" captures the essence of what Maiko Sushi offers: an oasis of sensational flavors that will leave you eager for your next visit.

If you're seeking a sushi experience that combines quality, sustainability, and humble charm, look no further than Maiko Sushi. Whether you're a local or just passing through, this hidden treasure is bound to elevate your dining experience. Expect to leave satisfied and perhaps even become a regular, just like many who have already discovered this delightful spot.
